Introduction / History

The Busanga (or Bisa) are a large ethnic group centered in Burkina Faso. Their homeland is Burkina Faso's southeast region, with some settlements in Côte d'Ivoire, northern Togo and Ghana. While details of their history are unclear, they may have entered their present location as early as the 14th century.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Busanga live by subsistence farming, raising millet, maize, rice and peanuts. They sell cotton and vegetables for cash.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though there are many Christians among them, the Busanga people of Togo have largely put their faith in the spirit world. The traditional religions of their ancestors still hold sway.

What Are Their Needs?

Since 1980, primary education has advanced. Roughly two thirds of the schools in the region have been built since then. However, less than one third of the boys, and one fourth of the girls, are enrolled in school.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to show himself powerful among the Busanga people in Togo, putting to rest their faith in ancient spirits.
Pray for African disciples to teach Christ to the Busanga people.
Pray for a soon-coming movement to Christ that will bless the Busanga people in every way.
