Traditionally the Kudumis were hunters and fishermen. They live throughout southern India and speak Tamil.
Kudumis work in farming, animal production, day labor and other work. They have a traditional wise man called a Budvantha to settle disputes and a community council to look after their interests. Boys are given some education, but girls are given very little. They commonly marry their cousins. After the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son taking charge of the family estate. The mother of the bride cannot go to the wedding of her daughter. They have a joint family system which means that often ten people live in one household.
The Kudumi are Hindus. They practice this ancient, flexible religious system that allows for the worship of one or many gods. One can also include Jesus among the gods, but they are very sensitive about not turning to "Christianity."
Though the Kudumi live near Christians and churches, they have not submitted to Christ. There are unseen spiritual impediments.
The Kudumi speak Tamil, a language spoken by thousands of vibrant Christians. Pray that Tamil speaking Christian believers will lead the Kudumi to a community-wide movement to Christ.
Pray for Indian Christians to adopt the Kudumis for regular prayer and outreach.
Pray also that the councils will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to salvation.
Pray for openness to faith in Christ alone, forsaking all others.
Pray for spiritual openness.
