Introduction / History

The Nanggu are believed to be descended from the Lapita – an ancient, seafaring people that arrived in the Solomon Islands in about 1600 BC. Their culture included sophisticated, geometric pottery, animal husbandry, and sea trade networks that involved the use of double-hulled canoes.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The modern Nanggu rely on farming root crops and costal fishing to survive. Because of their small population and remote location, they must work together to make community improvements and to respond to natural disasters, such as tropical storms and flooding.

What Are Their Beliefs?

While the majority of the Nanggu belong to the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, some continue to practice traditional and ethnic religion. This syncretism involves animism and appeasing the spirits of the ocean and the weather.

What Are Their Needs?

The Nanggu need to develop their economy. As it stands, many of their needs have to be imported.

Prayer Items

Pray for a revival among true believers and an awakening among the Nanggu who have never put their faith in Christ.
Pray for workers and resources to help make better healthcare and education available in remote location of the Nanggu.
Pray for the Lord to use Nanggu Christians as his chosen vessels to bless the nations.
